For New Years
Last month I joined a business group called BNI, which is a collection of people representing close to thirty different professions. It’s pretty cool going to my weekly meetings and seeing a parking lot full of Mercedes, BMWs and Fords… I saved the best for last… at least that what I tell myself as I pull up in my Fusion. Being part of this group has pointed out several important habits of successful people that I will quickly point out as many of us are thinking of New Year’s Resolutions.
1. Structure: Every meeting follows the same setup in order to make sure we address all that needs to be covered in a reasonable amount of time. Structure reduces anxiety, wasting time, and means we all get a fair opportunity to promote ourselves.
Tip: Implementing structure into your life may help you reduce anxiety, keep you on track for getting what needs to get done, and should help keep you from neglecting the important things in your life whether exercise, seeing friends, or eating properly.
2. Accountability: BNI’s main goal is to be a source of referrals for everyone in the group, which means to be in it you need to be performing at a top level. If you don’t produce proper results you will lose the trust of those in the group, which will eventually lead to you being replaced with someone who can be trusted.
Tip: Having someone(s) to keep you accountable can help reduce the temptation to cut corners or to not perform as well as you can because of life circumstances. If you don’t have an accountability partner that may be a wise resolution for this years
3. Self Understanding: All members are supposed to fill out the GAINS profile and refer back to it regularly to make sure they are on target. This information can also be beneficial for seeing how you can develop your personal life this year as well:
