I met a hot girl… (beautiful vs hot)

This past weekend I was at an event where I met a lot of great people, but one in particular stood out for me; I met Rachelle Wilde, a Playboy Playmate… wow.  I’ve met my share of beautiful people, but… wow… just wow.  If I may be so bold, pictures of her don’t actually portray how pretty she is… because wow… which is mostly because her friendly disposition is hidden behind the sexiness the pictures are meant to portray.  At this event she was signing autographs and I worked up the courage to go up to her and start a brief conversation where I tried to find words that were real words: (me) “I… am… Chad… you… are… nice.” My charm was in full force… I wish I was joking; I really lack in this area.  Fortunately, Rachelle was very gracious and knew how to help me feel more at ease and start to talk like someone who’s less like a three year old and more… eight.  I guess she’s used to talking to guys where there’s more drool than words: (guy) “Huhn huhn huhn huhn…” (her very politely) “Is there anything else you’d like to say?” (guy) “Huhn, huhn, pretty.”  By the end of our conversation she happily accepted my book, Emotional Sex: Making Good Relationships Great, and had even asked for my autograph… yeah, she knows how to make a guy feel good.  She was brilliant because she knew how to make me feel like a human and not scum.  There was compassion and acceptance in her demeanor and she spoke intelligibly.  I’m not saying she’s a university professor – if she was a prof I’d guarantee no guy would skip that class – but she definitely wasn’t a bimbo.  She wouldn’t be like: “Oh cute; look at that squirrel with the shaved tail.” (me) “That’s a rat.” (her) “Oh cute; look at that raccoon napping at the side of the road” (me) “Uh, it’s not napping.” (her) “Oh fun; that man is reading my shirt.” (me) “Uh, you’re wearing a plain tank top.” (I’m sure you’ve met girls like this).  What I liked about Rachelle is there seemed to be substance, and she was someone with whom I would be friends… yes, friends.

There was a booth at this event, however, where there was a group of very attractive young people working.  The one girl who worked there looked like Megan Fox… yeah… this was a sweet place to be.  Initially I was like: “Hubba, hubba” in my head… I think I said this in my head… I hope I did… but after that second of “Holy hotness” I was like “Ugh.”  She was hot, but… that was it.  She was like a shell of judgement.  I wanted to put my ear to her lips and listen to the sound of the ocean (like a shell, it was hollow).  I wanted to yell in her ear: “Echo,” and see how many times it would repeat.  There was more personality in the mannequins at her booth and more judgement from her than in a season of Judge Judy.  Now, I don’t want to be mean… not because I’m afraid she’ll read this since that’s a skill I’m sure she’s yet to develop… but besides her ability to flirt with certain guys – you had to get past her force field of wench-i-ness – she was miserable.  She was essentially “hot”,
but she wasn’t beautiful.  She was “stunning”, but she wasn’t attractive.  She could make peoples’ jaws go into a small coma, but she would make you want to read a book: “I need substance!” Even an episode of Sesame Street would be an upgrade: (her) “A is for… uh… can you help me with this?” (random guy) “Sure.” (her) “I didn’t know ‘sure’ started with an ‘A’”

Here we have two physically well constructed individuals, but the latter points out the danger of being “hot” because it can let you get away with being judgemental, lazy and ignorant.  There is a reason why a lot of Hollywood celebrities claim to be losers in high school; they were.  When these celebrities were younger they hadn’t hit their attractive stride yet, which allowed them to develop a work ethic and personality.  When I have kids I’m going to make them dorks… at least until they get passed high school.  You may be thinking: “Chad is that what your parents did?” No… I ended up a dork all on my own.  That was alllllll me: “I’m in the school band! All the girls will want me now.”  Oh innocence (shaking head).

The truth is this young lady who is hot (from a distance and for a moment) will enjoy flirting, but will likely rely on this for her self-worth since this is all she has going for her.  This will lead to making the aging process torture for her because she will lose the one thing to which she clings. In addition, the divorce rate is around the 50% mark, but because of her flirtatiousness she won’t likely be able to keep a relationship together long enough to even get divorced unless she can pull a Kardashian or Brittany: “I got married for a day; yea for me!”

Beauty may help open doors – Playboy doesn’t let anyone in – but without character, don’t expect to be let in.  You have to work to be successful and that’s why Rachelle is a cover model and this other young lady is working in a booth.  Beauty requires substance; hotness requires luck.

This week may you… forgive my words of judgement (I didn’t mean to be so mean, but I guess I have some repressed anger towards hot girls; a few too many rejections)… and may you look in the mirror and be grateful for how you look.  It can always be better, but it can also be a whole lot worse; besides, real beauty comes from developing our character, which is up to us to cultivate.
